John Patrick Booth, Jan 15, 1939 – June 19, 2016
Passed away at the age of 77. Born in Omaha, Nebraska. John was a Vietnam Veteran, U.S. Army, 7th Calvary. Predeceased by parents Marion and Helen (McCann) Booth. Survived by sons Mark and Rick Booth; sister Michaela (Richard) Brown; brother Thomas (CGS ’58, CHS ’62) (Elaine) Booth. Predeceased by spouses Glenda, and Dorothy Booth. There was a Celebration of Life Mass for John at Saint Joseph Church in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 30, 2016.
Margaret (Marge) Davis, (CGS ’46, CHS ’50)
Passed away November 25, 2016 in Omaha. She is survived by Joan Davis Hill (CHS ’52); George Davis (CGS ’50, CHS ’54); Cecilia Davis, O.P. (CGS ’54, CHS ’58); Frank X. Davis (CGS ’59, CHS ’63, and Ann Davis Miletich (CGS ’61, CHS ’65). Marge was predeceased by her parents, John and Edith Vitt Davis, brothers Michael (died as an infant), John Patrick Davis (CGS ’49, CHS ’53), and Sister Mary Davis (CHS ’56). Marge donated her body to science. A memorial celebration of her life will be held this spring in Omaha.
Sr. Marie Juan Maney, O.P.
Marie Juan Maney, whose 69 years of religious life included twelve years as a music teacher at Saint Cecilia School and former Cathedral High School in Omaha, died Dec. 2, 2016 in Sinsinawa, Wis. She was 89 years old. Born in 1927 in Big Bend, Wis., Sister Maney professed first vows in 1947 and final vows in 1950. During a 37-year teaching career, she taught music in Omaha at Saint Cecilia School from 1967 to 1978. She was instrumental in carrying on the tradition of the “Operetta”. Sister Maney served as a liturgist and music director for six years at parishes in Illinois and Minnesota, was organist and choir director at a Wisconsin parish and the Dominicans’ motherhouse in Sinsinawa, and through the years led choirs at Saint Augustine Parish, Plattevillen, WI and at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, WI where she also orchestrated the Elizabethan Dinner, the Summer Organ Concert Series, and the annual Messiah Concert. During the 2007 Centennial Year Celebration of Cathedral Parish and School, Sr. Marie Juan was recognized at Cathedral Comedy and Cuisine for her contribution to the music programs at Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School and Cathedral High School. A funeral Mass was held December, 5 in the Queen of the Rosary Chapel at the order’s community in Sinsinawa, with interment in the motherhouse cemetery.
John Edward Passarelli, February 7, 1984 - November 13, 2016
John Edward Passarelli was born on February 7, 1984 in Omaha, NE. He graduated from Saint Cecilia Grade School in 1998, from Creighton Prep in 2002, and Creighton University in 2006. John is survived by his parents, John Patrick and Mary Joyce (DeLashmutt) Passarelli; his brothers, David, Michael, Patrick, and James; and his special friend, Maria Harvey. Many cousins, aunts, uncles and loved ones also survive him. A Memorial Mass was celebrated for Jon on December 10, 2106 at Saint Cecilia Cathedral.
Shirley Jeanne Phillips (Preston)
Died August 4, 2016 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The mother of 4 sons: Steve, Ron, Jeff, and Tom. Born Sept 1, 1934 in North Loup, Nebraska from parents Howard and Edna Preston (Baker). She attended Cathedral High in Omaha (CHS ’52). After graduating high school, her family moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked in an insurance office. She met her “husband to be” in Denver on a blind date. He told his friends “I’m going to marry that girl!” and did. They were married for nearly 63 years, and after raising her boys she decided she wanted to rejoin the workforce. She worked as a sales clerk, and later as a receptionist, most notably for the Schuck Corp. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Edna, her two brothers Jim and Joe Preston, and her son Steve. She is survived by her husband Doug, her sister Sharon, and three sons: Ron, Jeff, and Tom, and by 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Her funeral was at Evergreen Funeral Home August 8, 2016.
Gordon W. Reefe, Jr., Feb 16, 1948 – Nov 19, 2016
Age 68 of Omaha (CGS ’62, CHS ’66). Preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Sr. and June Reefe; and sisters, Mary Duncan (CGS ’55, CHS ’59) and Lucy (CGS ’58, CHS ’62) Snyder. Survived by his siblings, Diane Ballard (CGS ’56, CHS ’61), Patricia (CGS ’60, CHS ’64) (Michael) Vodicka, and Cathy )CHS ’63) (Bob) Ratner; and many other relatives and friends. No services were held.

Lisa was known for her generosity, enormous personality and bringing smiles and laughter where ever she went. She was the owner of Lisa’s Radial Café. Lisa enjoyed singing, spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as anything sparkly and Christmas-related. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all that had the honor of knowing her. Preceded in death by parents, Milton and Nancy Savin; siblings, Kevin Savin and Kathy Lopez. Survived by husband of 25 years, Cliff; children, Meghan McLarney, Jennifer Maguire, Marie Schembri, Jacob Schembri (CGS ‘2012); grandchildren, Emily, Makenzie, Katelyn, Logan; sister Debbie (Joe) Rivas; brother Tim (Lori) Savin; her best friend, Aunt Jean Schmitz; many other relatives and friends. Barbara A. Anderson, Sep 1, 1932 - Feb 17, 2017
Preceded in death by husband, Lyle W. Anderson; son, Paul. Survived by children, Julie Ratcliffe (Bruce), Jim Anderson (Shalisa), and Susan Smith (Jerry); 5 grandchildren, Kevin Ratcliffe, Ryan Smith, Zack Smith, Amanda Smith, and Marissa Anderson; brother, Henry Oberhelman (Anita). Barb was on staff at Saint Cecilia Cathedral for over thirty years as the housekeeper in the parish rectory. She cooked and cleaned for many of our priests. She was an early bird, arriving at the rectory at 5 am to get things taken care of around the rectory. She had a kind word, and a smile for everyone. She will be missed greatly, however, we know there is a very special place in Heaven for Barb. Well done, good and faithful servant. Her funeral was February 23 at Saint Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha.

Wayne R. Childers, Nov 21, 1933 – Jan 25, 2017
Wayne: Husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Joined his parents, Ernest and Mae (Stokes) Childers; son David; and grandson Jeremiah to be with his Creator. Wayne was a Corporal in the Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War. He had a long-standing career, during which he rose to managerial and executive positions at William T. Joyce Lumber/Hines Lumber and Werner Enterprises, then “retired” to building homes (Windstar). Throughout his life, he was a farmer at heart. Wayne is survived by his wife,Jeri; children, Kurt (Sharon), Karen Klausner, Val (Jeff) Lennard, Paul (Patt), Nancy (Dean) Dobmeier, and John (Pam); 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters. His funeral was January 31 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Gretna, Nebraska.

Survived by children, David (Carla) Francois, Georgiann (Larry) Mann, Bev Bedel and Jan (Paul) Bacino; 5 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Marlin Coghill. Funeral services were Friday, February 27, 2017, at 11:15 am at Saint Cecilia Cathedral with interment in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.

Preceded in death by parents, Paul and Grace (Schenck) Bourns of Ponca, Nebraska. Survived by husband, David Harrington (CHS ’62); daughters, Michelle Scott (Steven) and Mary Harrington, all of Omaha. Paula was an avid gardener, wild life photographer, and lover of nature. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. As Paula wished, private family services will be held.
